What is a lab-grown diamond?

A lab-grown diamond is a real diamond. It is pure carbon in the same crystal structure as a mined diamond, with the same hardness (10 on the Mohs scale), the same brilliance, and the same grading scale — it is grown over weeks in a laboratory instead of over a billion years underground. A gemologist cannot tell the two apart by eye; only specialist equipment can. What changes is the price: a lab-grown stone costs a fraction of a mined one of the same grade, and comes with none of the mining.

Why an oval?

An oval spreads its weight across a longer face than a round, so a one-carat oval looks noticeably larger on the ear than a one-carat round — and its length flatters almost every face, softening the jaw and drawing the eye upward. It keeps the fire of a brilliant cut without the sharp corners that need protecting, which makes it the easiest fancy shape to wear every day. Matching a pair of ovals for outline is harder than matching rounds, which is part of what you are paying for.

Why silver, and not gold?

Because the stone is the point. Two carats of D/VS1 diamond in a heavy gold setting would double the price for metal you cannot see behind the ear. Care instructions

Store in the Nuraan box when not wearing. Apply perfume before putting the earrings on. Wipe with a soft microfibre cloth after wear; a diamond can also be cleaned in warm water with a drop of mild soap and a soft brush. Frequently asked questions

Are lab-grown diamonds real diamonds?

Yes. Chemically, physically and optically they are diamond — pure carbon, 10 on the Mohs scale, graded on the same colour and clarity scale as mined stones. The only difference is origin, which is disclosed on the laboratory report.

Do oval diamonds show a “bow-tie”?

Every oval can show a faint darker band across its middle at some angles. Ours are selected to keep it minimal, and at one carat on the ear it is not something you will notice in wear.

Is this the same as moissanite?

No. Moissanite is a different gemstone (silicon carbide) with more fire and a lower price; most of Nuraan’s range is moissanite and we say so plainly on every page. The Daily Glow Studs are diamond. Do these pass a diamond tester?

Yes — they are diamond. A standard thermal tester reads them as diamond because they are; only specialist origin-testing equipment distinguishes lab-grown from mined.

What does the laboratory report show?

Carat weight, colour grade, clarity grade, cut, measurements, and confirmation that the stone is laboratory-grown. Each stone has its own report, and both ship with the earrings.
